Ship's anchor
The U.S. Navy
Lightweight Mark 2 anchor weighs 6,600 lbs. It was used on
small yard and patrol crafts and it was used by Landing Ship Tanks (LST’s)
as a stern anchor. When approaching a beach, this anchor is dropped
as the vessel nears the shore and upon completion of the offload. It is used to winch the LST
back into deeper water.
The chain that is draped around the anchor pad and coiled around the
anchor support post is not really an anchor chain. It is the
chain that drives the gear that raises and lowers the actual anchor.
The photos below
show the restoration process and the placement in the park.
